What a Breast Lift Can Do for You
Breast lift, also called mastopexy, is a procedure that lifts and reshapes breasts that have lost their youthful shape and position, typically due to pregnancy, weight changes, or aging. Most breast lift candidates have:
- Moderate to significant degrees of sagging
- Enlarged areolas (darker area around the nipple)
- Elongated breasts and malpositioned nipples
If a patient displays only a moderate degree of sagging, Dr. Smith may be able to address this by adding volume with breast implants. However, in most cases of sagging, breast lift surgery is the best option, with many women opting to add breast augmentation for increased volume.
Dr. Smith performs breast lift as an outpatient procedure using general anesthesia. The most common along the breast crease. In some cases, more limited incision patterns may be used.
Through these incisions, Dr. Smith elevates and reshapes the breasts and creates a more youthful looking nipple-areolar complex. Most sutures that are used are dissolvable and a light dressing will be placed after surgery is completed.
Your Recovery and Beyond
You will be sent home wearing a comfortable surgical bra. Sutures are usually dissolvable, and any non-dissolvable sutures will be removed in about a week. You can usually shower within 1 to 2 days. Most patients only need prescription pain medication for a few days after surgery.
You can return to light activities in about 7 to 10 days and relatively full activity may be resumed about 3 weeks after surgery. Your recovery time may be longer if breast augmentation was combined with your breast lift.
